Indivisible is a nationwide grassroots movement made up of locally led groups. The movement grew out of the original Indivisible Guide, which emphasized the power of organized, local communities to influence government and hold elected officials accountable.

MI Barry County Indivisible is part of that larger movement, while remaining locally organized and focused on the needs and concerns of our community.

No. We are not a political party, and you do not have to be a member of any political party to participate.

We are a nonpartisan civic organization focused on democracy, constitutional rights, civic engagement, fairness, inclusion, and accountability.

We may take positions on issues when we believe democratic principles or the rights of our neighbors are at stake. Being nonpartisan does not mean being silent—it means our work is not about advancing a political party.

Democracy depends on people being able to participate, listen, learn, disagree respectfully, and work together.

You don't have to agree with every position, strategy, or issue we discuss to be part of our community. We do ask that participants treat one another with respect and share our commitment to nonviolent civic engagement and protecting democratic principles.

You don't need experience, special knowledge, or an activist background.

Maybe you want to attend a meeting. Maybe you want to learn more about an issue. Maybe you're comfortable talking to your neighbors but don't want to speak at a rally. Maybe you have five minutes to write a postcard—or five hours to help organize an event.

We organize around issues that matter to our community and our democracy.

Our activities may include:

• Providing factual information about current issues

• Hosting educational presentations and community discussions

• Organizing rallies, peaceful demonstrations, and other civic actions

• Connecting neighbors and building community

• Contacting and holding elected officials accountable

• Encouraging civic participation and voter engagement

• Uplifting voices from all backgrounds

• Advocating for inclusive and democratic policies

• Working with other community organizations when our goals align

The specific issues and activities change as our community and circumstances change.

While some of our work connects to national issues, we believe democracy starts right here at home.

We pay attention to what is happening at the local, county, state, and federal levels and look for meaningful ways people in Barry County can make their voices heard.

We believe that lasting change happens when people work together. When appropriate, we collaborate with other community groups, organizations, and individuals around shared goals.

Collaboration doesn't mean everyone has to agree on everything. It means finding common ground where we can make a difference together.

Our meetings are a chance to:

• Learn what's happening in our community and beyond

• Discuss current issues

• Hear about upcoming actions and events

• Learn about opportunities to get involved

• Connect with other community members

• Find out how different committees and projects are progressing

You don't have to speak or volunteer at your first meeting. Come listen, ask questions, and get a feel for who we are.

Peaceful demonstrations are one tool we use, but they are only one part of organizing.

Education, community conversations, contacting elected officials, outreach, voter engagement, relationship-building, and helping people understand how they can make their voices heard are all important parts of our work.
